For Claudia Vitelli, President of Vitelli Foods LLC, Italian food runs deep in
her blood. Born in Naples, Italy where food is one of the passions of life,
Claudia grew up in a home whose kitchen was filled with all of the fragrances
of traditional Italian cooking. This early introduction to traditional Italian
food laid the groundwork for the success that was to become Vitelli Foods.
After graduating from college in Italy, Claudia moved to the United States
where she became actively involved in her uncle's importing business.
Operating continuously since 1885 when it imported the first Italian Peeled
Tomatoes into the United States, Vitelli Foods LLC is America's premier and
oldest importer of Quality Italian Style Foods. While part of the Vitelli
family in Italy was producing canned tomatoes, the New York based Vitelli
family was importing those same tomatoes into the United States, creating the
first vertically integrated operation in the Italian Food business. Today's
Vitelli is quite different from the Vitelli of 1885 when it served the growing
Italian immigrant community in the five boroughs of New York City. Today,
products imported by Vitelli, including its trademarked LUIGI VITELLI products
can be found in major supermarket chains and distributors throughout the United
States. Vitelli's growth continues to be fueled by offering consumers great
quality at a value price.
The most Italian of supermarket items are tomatoes and pasta, just where you'd
expect to see Luigi Vitelli excel. And excel it does! As America's first
Italian Brand, Luigi Vitelli, consistently outperforms the tomato competition
on the key features of color, consistency and flavor. Why? Because Vitelli's
size and reputation give it first call on Italy's finest producers. And then
there's pasta. Luigi Vitelli practically reinvented the pasta category when it
introduced its low cost imported pasta 15 years ago. Since then, there's been
no looking back. The fact that this category, once dominated by two
manufacturers, is now one of the most competitive in the trade is directly
attributable to the pioneering of Vitelli Foods.
